An excerpt from the Salem Evening News of former Chapter President, Yanique Shaw, commenting on our campaign with The American Cancer Society:
“Approaching her final year at Salem State, Yanique Shaw, president of her college’s Public Relations Student Society of America chapter, intended to campaign for a cause near and dear to the hearts of many in the SSC community that knew former professor Dr. Sandra Fowler.
Partnering with the American Cancer Society for ACS’s premier fundraising event, the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk, Shaw and the PRSSA have been canvassing the campus and local businesses for donation and promotion opportunities in honor of Fowler.
“We lost the head of the communications department, Sandra Fowler, last year to breast cancer and we just thought that it would be a good idea to give back in her honor,” said Shaw. “If it wasn’t for her, we honestly wouldn’t have a communications department. I think we got involved because we really wanted to give back, and the clients we previously worked for were mainly for-profits. So we thought this was a good way to raise awareness for a good cause.”
