With the 2016 presidential nominations quickly approaching, candidates have been traversing across the country to announce their campaigns.  Such infamous candidates running for president include Jeb Bush, Hilary Clinton, Bernie Sanders, Chris Christie, and other political figures.  Notorious ‘Celebrity Apprentice’ host Donald Trump announced his presidential candidacy last month, but has lately been running into trouble with the media.  Within weeks of his presidential campaign, NBCUniversal fired Trump from the network.

NBC relinquished its ties with Trump over a controversial comment he made about Mexican immigrants and immigration. Trump remarked that Mexican immigrants were responsible for the crime and violence in the country, accusing them of bringing in illicit drugs and being rapists and murderers.  As well as being fired from hosting ‘The Apprentice’, NBC stated that they will no longer air the Miss USA and Miss Universe pageant due to Trump’s affiliation with the program.  A recent press release from NBCUniversal stated,

“Due to the recent derogatory statements by Donald Trump regarding immigrants, NBC Universal is ending its business relationship with Mr. Trump.  To that end, the annual Miss USA and Miss Universe Pageants, which are part of a joint venture between NBC and Trump, will no longer air on NBC”.

Other television networks are taking necessary measures after Trump’s shocking statements.  Univision will no longer be airing the Miss USA pageant, calling Trump’s comment ‘insulting’.  NBC will continue to distance itself from the Donald, further stating that they do not agree with any of his political positions.

The Miss USA and Miss Universe pageant airs every summer.  Both pageant shows are part of a joint venture between NBC and Trump Productions.  Latin women have been contestants in both pageant shows, with 22 winning the crown since 1952.  Recent pageant winners include Paulina Vega of Columbia and Nia Sanchez of USA whom also has Mexican roots.  Due to Univision’s decision to pull the show off the air, audiences will miss out on the yearly program.trumo1

Within the past few weeks, Trump has burned his bridge with NBC to push his presidential campaign further along.  This political scandal is a prime example of why it is important to be careful with spreading opinions if you are affiliated with a corporation.  Trump’s freedom of speech was not infringed, yet his comments caused him to lose important media ties with NBC.  His political campaign could come crumbling down because of his ignorant ideas about immigration.  The Donald has dug himself a huge hole with his political campaign and continues to dig himself even further.

  1. Trump is 21st century PT Barnum. Not electable but darned popular enough to draw big crowds into his tent full of “mermaids” and other fakes. He’s in a no-lose situation and the GOP faces the scary scenario of Trump running as an Independent and thus handing the 2016 presidential election to Hillary.
